Dev (Bengali: দেব) is a Bengali film actor.[1][2] His original name is Deepak Adhikari. He was born in 'Mahisha' a small village near Keshpur, West Midnapur, West Bengal. He spent his childhood in Chandrakona at his maternal uncle's place.After finishing his primary education, he returned to Mumbai to his parents before coming back and settling down in Kolkata. His debut film was "Agnisapath", which did not run well at box-office. Later, he changed his name to 'Dev' and tried his luck again in the film industry. His first film as Dev 'I Love You'(2007),directed by Ravi Kinnagi, made him popular. It was one of the biggest hit in Bengali Film Industry in that year.[3]

Film career

After finishing studies, he returned to Mumbai and started as an observer in Abbas-Mustan’s Taarzan: The Wonder Car. He also did an acting course at the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Academy.His first film as the lead was Agnishapath opposite Rachana Banerjee, directed by Prabir Nandi. This film was a flop at box office. At that time, Shree Venkatesh Films was looking for a fresh face for their next venture I Love You. He met them and bagged the male lead role.[4]

His Fourth film was director Raj Chakraborty directed Challenge in opposite of Subhashree Ganguly. With what is widely regarded as a handsome demeanor and respected dancing skills, Dev proved his mettle in an interesting action-romance genre in Challenge.The film Challenge was a huge hit in West Bengal and made Dev a very popular actor. Dev's recent films Dui Prithibi and Sedin Dakha Hoyechilo fared modestly in the box office. Towering at above six feet, lightning-feet Dev is the new Tollywood hit-machine.[5]

Dev is also the only actor in Bengali cinema to do an item song. His first item song was from the film 'Chirodini Tumi je Amar' in the song "pante tali". The track as well the video went on to become a massive hit!

Dev's new item number is from the film 'Jackpot' directed by Kaushik Ganguly. In this film, he was seen dancing to the remade music track of 'Jibone ki Pabona', a track originally made famous by the presence of iconic Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee.He got STAR ANANDA (a Bengali news channel) Shera notun Protibha Award 2010 award. his superhit film in 2010 was sedin dekha hoyechilo.

His latest film is 'Khokababu', releasing in January, 2012. His co-actress in this film is Subhashree Ganguly and the film is directed by Shankar Aiyya.
